Values1. The church is the hope of the world. [Ephesians 1, 1 Corinthians 12:1-13; Acts 1:8] a.The church is not an organization or a business but a group of people that are daily making steps to follow closer in the footsteps of Jesus. b.We are the body of Christ.2. Come as you are. No perfect people allowed. [Romans 3:23, Philippians 2:5-7, I Samuel 16:7, James 2:2-4, 2 Cor. 5:12] a.There is no dress code at RCC. It's completely your choice to wear khakis or jeans / a dress or sweats and a t-shirt when attending any event or gathering. b.Whatever your circumstances; single, married, single again, with or without children, and no matter where you've been or what you've done, you matter to God and you will experience the difference here. c.Every member, attendee, or visitor of RCC makes mistakes and carries baggage. No one is perfect!3. Grace is not only the free gift of forgiveness, but the standard of morality that God has given man. [Romans 6:14; John 14:15; 2 Peter 3:18, Romans 3:23] a.There are absolute moral truths found in scripture. b.There are 3 ways to handle those truths i.Legalism is completely against the New Testament standard of truth. We are no longer under the law. ii.Tolerance is a cheap substitute for grace. iii.GRACE is the standard that God has given us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. [Romans 5:8] c.As a body, we must administer grace in all of our relationships as the standard we place upon others. When others mess up we give grace. When we mess up, we expect grace. d.There comes a place where discipline must happen but discipline comes out of a desire for a deeper form of grace to be administered. e.All have sinned, therefore the only hope we have is grace.4. Cultural relevance is biblical and necessary. [I Cor. 9:19-22, Acts 17] a.We utilize the tools of modern music, media, movies, books, etc. to relate to the culture of Cass County and often illustrate the truth of biblical principles.5. Gifts and talents, when discovered, used, and sharpened, model the creativity of our maker. [Psalm 150, Psalm 33:3, Romans 12:4-6a, I Chronicles 15:11- 29, Colossians 3:17] a.We believe that people should use every gift, talent, and skill that they have been given to glorify God and lead others into relationship with Him.6. Corporate Gatherings create an environment of unified worship and practical conversation. [Acts 5:42, Mark 2:2, II Timothy 4:2, Psalm 100:2, Heb. 10: 24-25] a.Although gathering in a building is often thought of as The Church, as if church is a place to go or attend, we know that this is definitely not the plan that Christ had in mind. We gather corporately to be inspired, motivated, and compelled to change through worship in song, video, visual arts, and prayer. Practical teaching/conversation is a vital part of giving direction for our next step.7. Living in community with a life group is the primary way for us to BE the church. [Romans 16:5, Acts 5:42, Heb. 10:24-25] a.Though participating in corporate worship service is both biblical and beneficial, our ability to BE the church on Sunday is limited. Instead we view the Life Group as the primary place where church happens. Life Groups offers the opportunity to pursue Jesus in a more authentic and intimate community. In this community we worship God, learn from the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, ask questions, discover and use our spiritual gifts and serve one another and the world around us. We believe that having a consistent community for encouragement, discovery, prayer and laughter is an essential aspect of our spiritual journeys. Its no coincidence that the early church met both corporately and house to house.8. Children and youth are extremely valuable in the kingdom of God and require unique relational environments to grow and take their next step. [Psalm 127:3-5, Matthew 21:15-16, Matthew 18:2-10, Luke 18:15-17] a.Children and youth small groups are available starting at Kindergarten that hold conversations on their level and revolving around their life stage. b.Corporate gatherings for kids and youth are monthly expressions of worship and practical teaching on their level.9. Leadership roles should only be filled by people that are constantly taking relational steps in the body of Christ. [I Timothy 3:1-13, , Titus 1:7] a.The functions of the 5 fold ministry (pastor, evangelist, prophet, teacher, ) are not positions or titles to be held and therefore they only reveal themselves in the lives of maturing believers. b.Walking in these functions gives us the ability to lead.10. Serving & giving is open to all who regularly attend. [Matthew 20:28, John 3:1-16, 2 Corinthians 8:7, Luke 18:22, 2 Corinthians 8:1-15] a.Serving in the body of Christ is a great opportunity to gain the heart of Christ for people. Serving happens as we offer our time and talents to God. i.Sabbath is a principle of serving in that we offer God one of our weekly days for rest and reflection. Giving 1 day a week to God is actually a step of faith to believe He can accomplish more with 6 days than we can with 7. b.Giving is not something that we pressure people to do, but something that we believe people desire to do as they continue to take next steps in their spiritual journey. Giving happens as we offer our resources and money to God. i.Tithing is a New Testament principle. Giving 10% of your income to God is actually a step of faith to believe He can accomplish more with 90% than we can with 100%.
